Cristiano Ronaldo’s strike at Al-Nassr has sparked talk of a sensational MLS move, with the Portuguese backed for a potential link-up with Lionel Messi at Inter Miami.
"Cristiano Ronaldo could still thrive in the MLS, no problem," said Rene Meulensteen, speaking to BetGoat.
"Playing alongside Lionel Messi at Inter Miami? It would be incredible."
Fans have long craved a reunion of the 13 Ballons d’Or winners after El Clasico battles, with Messi now a back-to-back MVP in the United States. He inspired last season’s MLS Cup triumph and has a deal through 2028.
Ronaldo is 41 and under contract in Saudi Arabia until 2027, with a release clause that can be triggered in the next transfer window.
Inter Miami co-owner Sir David Beckham is viewed as the man to land any marquee move. World Cup winner Kleberson believes America would go crazy for Ronaldo and Messi in one dressing room, while Rob Earnshaw doubts it will happen but sees Beckham as the one who could make it possible.
Ronaldo has missed Al-Nassr’s last three matches. He ruled himself out of the first after objecting to how transfer funds are distributed in the Saudi Pro League, and is expected to face Al-Fateh on Saturday as the title race continues, with his longer-term plans unclear before Portugal’s World Cup push this summer.
