Alarm at Al Nassr after tests showed Cristiano Ronaldo’s knee tendon injury is more serious than first feared, and he will now travel to Spain for treatment.
According to El Periódico Mediterráneo, head coach Jorge Jesus said assessments after the Al Fayha game showed greater damage. He added Ronaldo would go to Madrid to work with his personal therapist, and the club hope he returns soon ahead of Saturday’s meeting with Neom Sports Club.
The club said in a statement that he suffered a knee tendon injury against Al Fayha, has begun rehabilitation, and will be monitored day by day.
Such injuries can rule players out from one week to three months depending on severity. Local indications point to around four weeks out, which would leave him out of Portugal’s warm-up friendlies in the Americas before the World Cup in the United States, Mexico and Canada this summer.
The immediate impact on Al Nassr could be softened as the AFC have postponed their Asian Champions League quarter-final against Al Wasl with no new date amid conflict in the Middle East. In the league, Al Nassr hold a two-point lead over second-placed Al-Ahli with 10 rounds remaining.
Ronaldo is aiming to be fully fit for this summer’s tournament, while he continues his personal pursuit of the 1,000-goal career landmark.
