CRISTIANO RONALDO has left Portugal’s training camp after being left on the bench for UEFA Nations League matches against Denmark and Norway, amid a complete breakdown with head coach Jorge Jesús.

According to Superdeporte, Jorge Jesús refused to address media questions about the rift, a stance that inflamed tensions inside the camp and preceded Ronaldo’s exit.

The situation had already been fraught, and Portuguese federation president Pedro Proença travelled urgently to the camp to mediate between the pair.

Jorge Jesús later denied there was any problem. He said Ronaldo had worked in the gym while Francisco Conceição missed training through injury and Félix was managed for fatigue, and that the forward would train on the fourth day.

Ronaldo did not train with the group the previous day, a decision linked to his disappointment at being left out.

This could yet mark a premature end to his Portugal career. At 41, he was already in the final stretch as an international.
