Cristiano Ronaldo likes ex-Flamengo pundit’s post, intensifying Portugal row with Jorge Jesus | OneFootball

Cristiano Ronaldo has liked a video by former Flamengo midfielder and pundit Felipe Melo criticising how the Portuguese media treat him, adding fuel to his stand-off with Portugal coach Jorge Jesus. The gesture was quickly picked up in Portugal and Spain.

In the clip, Melo argued Ronaldo does not receive the Messi-in-Argentina deference, and referenced talk of possible issues with team-mates. Marca reports that, despite Portugal’s three Nations League wins, controversy around Ronaldo leaving the camp is growing, and his like on a post criticising team-mates has reignited tensions.

New Portugal coach Jorge Jesus started Ronaldo in the opening match against Wales. In the second round of the Nations League, the forward remained on the bench during the win over Norway.

Irritated, Ronaldo skipped training and asked to leave the camp on the eve of the Denmark game. After the last match, Jesus did not offer an apology, stressing instead that the team’s needs came first.

Portugal play Norway again on Sunday.
