Cristiano Ronaldo has broken his silence with a training photo and club-coloured heart emojis, following claims he had downed tools at Al-Nassr. The post points to continued commitment as the squad prepare to face Al-Ittihad in the Saudi Pro League on Friday.

The Portugal captain did not feature in Monday’s league game against Al-Riyadh, amid suggestions he had refused to play due to frustration over the PIF’s transfer work at Al-Nassr compared to other fund-backed clubs. January was quiet, with only under-23 midfielder Haydeer Abdulkareem arriving.

Al-Ittihad have lost Karim Benzema to leaders Al-Hilal, who are one point clear of Al-Nassr after 19 games. The move is said to have angered Ronaldo, with a key rival strengthened while his own club stood pat. Benzema won the league in 2024-25, Ronaldo has yet to lift a trophy in the region.

Asked about talk of a Ronaldo strike, Al-Hilal chief executive Esteve Calzado said, “You should ask him. We are focusing on ourselves.” He told Cadena SER.

It remains unclear when Ronaldo will return to competitive action for Al-Nassr. His latest update suggests he may be available on Friday, although there has been speculation he could miss out again. Attention will be on the team sheet against Al-Ittihad.
