The Portugal great was absent from the matchday squad on Monday as Al Nassr beat Al Riyadh 1-0, with Sadio Mane on the scoresheet, and moved one point behind Saudi Pro League leaders Al-Hilal.

It was a fifth win in a row for Al Nassr, who have steadied the ship after three defeats on the spin over the New Year severely hampered their title ambitions.

But Ronaldo played no part after, according to Portuguese outlet A Bola, made himself unavailable for selection, having grown frustrated at what he sees as a failure to strengthen the squad while domestic rivals continue to spend heavily.

The focus of his ire is reportedly the Public Investment Fund, which owns a 75 per cent stake in Saudi Arabia's four biggest clubs: Al-Nassr, Al-Hilal, Al-Ittihad and Al-Ahli.

It is said that Ronaldo feels Al Nassr have not been backed sufficiently in the transfer market while their title rivals have splashed the cash.

Cristiano Ronaldo was absent for Al Nassr's Saudi Pro League match on Monday amid reports he has fallen out with key figures over the club's transfer activity.

Al Nassr's only January additions were 21-year-old Iraq midfielder Hayder Abdulkareem and Saudi Arabia striker Abdullah AlHamdan.

Meanwhile, France great Karim Benzema has left Al-Ittihad for Al-Hilal on a free transfer, having himself gone on strike after reportedly being offered an "insulting" contract extension.

The Daily Mail report that Benzema was on £1.61million per week - or just over £230,000 per day - at Al-Ittihad before failing to agree to fresh terms, which allowed Al-Hilal to swoop in with a more attractive offer.

It remains to be seen if Ronaldo will end his strike before Friday night's home league game against Al-Ittihad, who are now without Benzema, but he continues to be the best-paid player on the planet.

How much does Cristiano Ronaldo earn in Saudi Arabia?

Ronaldo is said to be football’s first billionaire.

When he joined Al Nassr in 2022, he became the best-paid player in football history with an annual salary of £177m.

Ronaldo, who has only won the Arab Club Champions Cup during his three years in the Gulf, then earned himself a pay rise when agreeing a new two-year contract last summer.

According to The Sun, Ronaldo will earn £492m over two years, and pocketed £24.5m as a signing-on fee, with his improved contract. That figure will reportedly increase to £38m when he begins the second year of his contract.

Ronaldo negotiated a goal bonus of £80,000, and £40,000 for every assist he registers.

He will also be handed a £4m for winning the SPL golden boot and £8m if Al-Nassr win the title. The Sun add that Ronaldo now owns a 15 per cent ownership stake in Al Nassr, which is worth £33m.

That works out as a basic salary of £4.7m a week, or £671,000 a day.

Breaking it down further, Ronaldo earns £28,000 an hour, around £465 a minute or just shy of £8 a second.
