Cruzeiro end Athletico-PR's 10-match run with late penalty | OneFootball

Cruzeiro beat Athletico Paranaense 3-1 at Estádio Governador Magalhães Pinto on Sunday, ending the visitors' 10-match unbeaten Brasileirão run.

Matheus Pereira headed Cruzeiro in front in the 30th minute from Gerson's clipped cross.

A Matheus Henrique finish for Cruzeiro was ruled out by VAR (43.). João Cruz then levelled for Athletico-PR in the first minute of first half stoppage time with a low strike from distance.

Before the interval, VAR confirmed a penalty after Luiz Gustavo fouled Pereira. Mycael saved Pereira's kick in the eighth minute of first half stoppage time.

After the restart, Otávio denied Kevin Viveros with a smart stop (67.).

Lucas Romero restored Cruzeiro's lead from the centre of the box after a Pereira pass (71.). Kaio Jorge won a penalty (79.) and converted from the spot (82.) to seal it.

Cruzeiro controlled possession at 61.1% and registered 19 attempts. Athletico-PR still worked Otávio six times, but the goalkeeper held firm.
