Crysencio Summerville’s World Cup call-up for the Netherlands reignited talk of a Leeds United windfall from his 2024 move to West Ham. According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, club sources say Leeds are not due any extra cash if he plays for his country.
After Leeds’ 2023 relegation, the winger stayed to seek minutes and excelled under Daniel Farke, scoring 19 and supplying nine, which earned Championship Player of the Season. Interest followed and, in August, West Ham triggered a release clause worth just over £25m plus add-ons.
His first season with West Ham was curtailed by a serious hamstring injury that cost him 18 Premier League matches. This season he did not score until January, netting in a 2-1 win over Spurs to start a four-game league scoring run, and he finished with seven goals and five assists in all competitions.
Even before West Ham’s relegation was confirmed, despite a final day victory over Leeds, clubs at home and abroad were already linked. A return to the Championship appears unlikely, at best.
Summerville has now earned a first senior Netherlands call-up after 37 youth caps. He will join Ronald Koeman’s squad for friendlies against Algeria and Uzbekistan, then group games against Japan, Sweden and Tunisia, where he could face Leeds’ Gabriel Gudmundsson, despite an injury-curtailed club campaign, and Ao Tanaka.
