Crystal Palace beat Aston Villa to agreement for Club Brugge defender Joel Ordonez | OneFootball

Crystal Palace have reached an agreement with Club Brugge for the transfer of centre-back Joel Ordonez.

Transfer reporter Tomas Taecke claims that the Eagles have hijacked Aston Villa’s move for the Ecuador international.

They have agreed to pay £25.7 million plus an unspecified amount in add-ons for the 22-year-old to join them on loan with an obligation to buy. He has agreed to the switch.

Palace will now look to organise a medical for the defender, who is currently sidelined with a foot injury.

Villa previously identified Ordonez as one of their options to replace Ezri Konsa, who has joined Arsenal this summer.

The Villans were working on a loan deal with an obligation to be made permanent at the end of the loan spell.

They were in talks with Brugge for Ordonez, but moved on due to his injury.

Palace recently signed Axel Disasi on a season-long loan deal from Chelsea, but are keen to add more options to their defensive ranks.

They sold Maxence Lacroix this summer and were dealt a blow when Chadi Riad suffered a serious injury in their Premier League opener against Everton last weekend.

They previously signed Takehiro Tomiyasu after a trial to strengthen their defensive options ahead of another gruelling campaign.

Palace are set to compete in the Europa League this season, having won the Europa Conference League last term.

Ordonez will be a quality addition to Palace this season. He has played 22 times in the Champions League, and three games for Ecuador at the FIFA World Cup.
