Crystal Palace are closing in on the loan signing of Aston Villa forward Evann Guessand (24) as they look to add depth and versatility to their attacking options for the second half of the season, BBC Sport reports.
The Eagles are set to take the 24-year-old until the end of the campaign in a deal that includes an option to buy. Palace had explored a move for Guessand last summer and have now returned with renewed intent, believing the striker can make an immediate impact with more regular football.
Guessand joined Villa from Nice for £26m last August but has struggled to secure a consistent role at Villa Park. He has scored twice in 26 appearances this season, with both goals coming in the Europa League, and has made just six Premier League starts. His preferred role as a central striker has been difficult to come by, particularly following Villa’s £18.25m signing of Tammy Abraham from Besiktas, which leaves Guessand behind Abraham and Ollie Watkins in the pecking order.
While the Ivory Coast international, who has won 19 caps, has remained professional and willing to compete for his place, a temporary move appears the best solution for all parties.
For Palace, the deal offers a low-risk opportunity to strengthen their attack, while Guessand will hope regular minutes can help reignite his momentum.
