Crystal Palace have confirmed the signing of Flamengo attacking midfielder Matheus França.
The 19-year-old signed a five-year contract with Roy Hodgson’s side after they agreed a reported £17m deal.
Chelsea and Newcastle were credited with an interest in França before the Eagles won the race for his signature.
“Matheus is a young and exciting player whose impressive early progress we have followed with keen interest, and we are delighted to welcome him to the club,” said Palace chairman Steve Parish.
“Palace have a long history of attacking players with skill, pace, and tenacity, and I am sure Matheus will be another popular addition to the nucleus of this young and entertaining squad, packed full of international talent and potential, that we are building here in south London.”
França becomes Palace’s third signing of the summer following the arrivals of Jefferson Lerma and Chris Francis, who both joined from Bournemouth on free transfers.
