As reported by David Ornstein of The Athletic, Crystal Palace are now considering a move for Eddie Nketiah, after the player’s proposed transfer to Nottingham Forest falling through.

A deal for up to £30million was previously in place between Arsenal and Forest for the Englishman, however, an agreement could not be reached with Nketiah himself, and Forest are now set to focus their intentions on signing Feyenoord’s Santiago Giménez instead.

As such, Palace are now looking to approach The Gunners for their striker, who The Eagles already spoke to about a potential move earlier in the summer, due to their ‘long-standing admiration’ for Nketiah.

The 25-year-old also saw a potential deal collapse to Olympique Marseille this month, as the French club were unable to meet Arsenal’s terms. But, he is still expected to leave The Emirates Stadium before the window closes, as he searches for more game time than he has received under Mikel Arteta since his contract extension at Arsenal two years ago.

At that point, the once-capped England international had just completed a season in which he scored five in eight starts and 21 appearances in the Premier League. That rate – a goal every 165 minutes – is better than those he has managed in the in the following years, having only managed five in 10 starts last season, and four in nine in the 2022/23 campaign.

However, with Nketiah attaining a record 16 goals in 17 appearances for England’s under-21 side, he clearly attains a natural goal scoring instinct.

This would be useful for Palace, who have only scored via an own-goal in their two losses Brentford and West Ham so far this season, and are consequently looking to strengthen their striker options alongside Jean-Philippe Mateta.
