Crystal Palace have been drawn against AEK Larnaca in the Conference League round of 16. According to NY Times, the tie extends Palace’s first European campaign.
They reached this stage by beating Zrinjski Mostar 3-1 on aggregate in the play-off. After a 1-1 first leg, Maxence Lacroix and Evann Guessand sealed a 2-0 home win.
Palace lost to AEK at Selhurst Park in the league phase. Riad Bajic scored following a costly error from 19-year-old Jaydee Canvot.
AEK sit third in the Cypriot First Division, eight points off Omonoia Nicosia. In the league phase they won three and drew three, conceding just one goal.
The first leg is at Selhurst Park on 12 March, the return at the AEK Arena seven days later. If Palace advance, they will meet Fiorentina or Rakow Czestochowa in the quarter-finals. They entered the play-off after finishing outside the top eight, with three wins, one draw and two defeats.
Palace have won only three of their past 17 matches, amid debate over Oliver Glasner’s future. The Austrian has confirmed he will leave when his contract expires this summer, but has not ruled out going sooner. Relations with supporters have frayed, he urged them to stay humble and a banner said he was finished. They are 13th in the Premier League and visit fourth-placed Manchester United on Sunday.
