Crystal Palace are reportedly keen on a transfer for the Stoke City loan forward

Crystal Palace are reportedly interested in a summer transfer for Stoke City loan man Divin Mubama.

The Potters have bettered most pre-season expectations this term by consistently challenging towards the top of the division, something they haven’t managed to do since their return to Championship football in 2018.

Under the leadership of Mark Robins, Stoke have become one of the most potent attacking sides in the league, with just four sides striking more times than them in the opening 18 matches.

This is partly down to their summer recruitment, which saw players such as Sorba Thomas and the aforementioned Mubama arrive at the club. The latter joined on loan from top-flight giants Manchester City for his first loan stint away from the top flight giants, and has impressed with his mature performances.

And because of that, Premier League interest is already beginning to arrive for Mubama - but it should not affect his season-long agreement at the bet365 Stadium.

According to journalist Alan Nixon via Patreon, Mubama is attracting interest from Premier League side Crystal Palace.

It is stated that the 21-year-old is being viewed as a potential successor to Jean-Philippe Mateta from next season, as the Frenchman continues to gain potential suitors elsewhere whilst not extending his contract at Selhurst Park.

Palace’s scouts are reportedly tracking Mubama, who is currently set to remain with Stoke until the end of the season.

He has scored five times in the Championship so far this season, which sees him currently fall behind just Thomas in the Potters’ goalscoring rankings.

The forward came through West Ham United’s academy system, before joining Manchester City in 2024 after his contract expired at the London Stadium, but he has a certain Erling Haaland standing in his way at the Etihad Stadium when it comes to first-team minutes.

Stoke City may have no chance of keeping Divin Mubama permanently amid Crystal Palace interest

Given how important Mubama has become to Stoke City’s attacking play this season, hopes began to emerge amongst their fanbase that an eventual permanent transfer could be on the cards.

Although this may have set them back a great deal of money, the Potters could accept paying a large fee for an asset with such great potential. However, a permanent transfer may no longer be realistic.

If Premier League sides who enjoy European football such as Crystal Palace are sniffing around Mubama, they will be able to completely blow Stoke out of the water, both in terms of financial compensation and level of competitiveness.

If Robins’ side were promoted, that could perhaps convince Mubama to stay and be a central part of their survival bid in the top-flight.

But, if Mateta were to leave Selhurst Park in the near future, the 21-year-old may also be guaranteed football there too, which would again be a huge blow for Stoke's chances - they may just have to enjoy what time they have with him this season on a temporary basis.
