Crystal Palace ‘increase bid’ for Matsima as Lacroix set to join Chelsea

Crystal Palace have increased their offer for Augsburg defender Chrislain Matsima, with Maxence Lacroix set to complete a move from Crystal Palace to Chelsea.

Sky Sports reports that an earlier €20 million bid was rejected, and Palace have now offered €25 million to sign the 24-year-old, who has already agreed terms.

Matsima joined Augsburg permanently from Monaco last summer for €5 million. He shone across 18 months but missed 15 games with a serious injury last term, returning late as Augsburg secured one of their best Bundesliga finishes.

Augsburg’s record outgoing fee dates back a decade, when Chelsea paid €26 million for Ghana international Abdul Rahman Baba.

The Bavarians continued pre-season with a 1-1 draw against Saarbrücken on Saturday. Mert Kömür, linked with Hull City, struck a late equaliser direct from a corner.
