After extending their unbeaten start to the Premier League season with a frustrating goalless draw against Sunderland last weekend, the Eagles host their Championship opposition at Selhurst Park in the third round of the League Cup on Tuesday.

The midweek match will come too soon for injured trio Adam Wharton, Ismaila Sarr and Eddie Nketiah, Palace’s boss revealed on Monday, but teenaged defender Canvot and veteran goalkeeper Benitez are set to make their first starts for Glasner’s group.

“We'll play our best team available, like always, but there will be a few changes,” the Austrian said pre-match.

“I can confirm that Walter Benítez will have his debut for Crystal Palace and Jaydee Canvot will have his debut.”

He added: “Some players need to rest from international duties and having many games, but [Benitez and Canvot], I've already decided to start them.”

Argentine shot-stopper Benitez, 32, joined the Eagles from PSV Eindhoven at the beginning of the summer transfer window, while 19-year-old French centre-back Canvot arrived late last month from Toulouse.

Regarding the rest of his squad, Glasner said he had the same players at his disposal as he did for Sunderland’s visit last Saturday. There was no update on Ismaila Sarr, who has been sidelined with a hamstring injury since before the recent international break.

Glasner admitted “it looks positive” that Adam Wharton and Eddie Nketiah could be fit in time to face West Ham this weekend, but that the English pair will not be ready to return for the Millwall match.
