Crystal Palace have opened contract talks with Adam Wharton as the club look to ward off transfer interest in the midfielder.
Wharton is on the radar for several of the Premier League’s top teams, with Manchester United and Liverpool among those impressed by his performances at Selhurst Park.
The 21-year-old signed a contract until 2029 when joining Palace from Blackburn Rovers, but the Eagles are keen to reward the player’s development with a new deal.
Transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano has revealed that talks are underway, as Palace look to secure the long-term future of the midfielder.
The discussions are understood to involve the inclusion of a release clause, allowing Wharton a get-out should a suitable – and significant – offer arrive.
Wharton helped Palace to FA Cup success last season, the club’s first-ever major trophy. He has been named in the England squad for November’s international fixtures with Serbia and Albania, where he will look to add to his sole cap and secure a place in Thomas Tuchel’s plans.
