Crystal Palace’s intent in the transfer market has been clear for weeks, and Sky Sports News now confirms Oliver Glasner is pressing to bring in fresh creativity and defensive resilience. As reported by James Savundra, “Crystal Palace are interested in signing Christoph Baumgartner from RB Leipzig.”
Baumgartner, 25, has emerged as one of Glasner’s “top targets in this window”, with the Austria international offering versatility and an eye for goal. He netted seven times for club and country last season and would bring direct running, a cultured right foot, and the kind of pressing intensity Glasner values in attacking midfielders.
The connection between manager and player also runs deep. Glasner and Baumgartner worked together at Wolfsberger AC in Austria, and their familiarity could fast-track any bedding-in process. Yet, any optimism from Selhurst Park will have to be tempered by Leipzig’s current stance.

According to Sky Sports, “Xavi Simons’ imminent departure to Tottenham means that the Bundesliga club do not want to sell him this summer.” With Simons heading for North London, Leipzig are reluctant to weaken their squad further, placing a potential roadblock in Palace’s path.
Alongside their pursuit of Baumgartner, Palace are also advancing in talks to sign Jaydee Canvot from Toulouse. The 19-year-old centre-back has been tracked by multiple Premier League clubs this summer, but it is Glasner’s side who have come closest to striking a deal.
“The two clubs are close to a £22.5m (€26m) agreement and it is now up to the 19-year-old to decide.” Toulouse have shown a willingness to do business and it is understood that Canvot is seriously considering Palace’s offer.
Sky’s report adds another twist, noting that “Canvot has already turned down a number of Premier League clubs already this summer,” a sign of the teenager’s deliberation over where his development is best served.

Much of the speculation around defensive arrivals at Selhurst Park inevitably links to the future of Marc Guehi. However, Sky Sports News are quick to clarify, “Palace’s pursuit of Canvot is not linked to a potential departure for Marc Guehi.”
That stance suggests Palace are building depth rather than reacting to a pending exit. Still, the club is prepared should circumstances change. “The Eagles will line up a readymade replacement for Guehi if his exit is sanctioned prior to Monday’s deadline.”
This targeted strategy speaks to a broader shift at Crystal Palace, where recruitment has become more agile and data-informed. Glasner’s fingerprints are clear. He is looking for a high-energy midfielder who can work between the lines, and a progressive defender capable of leading a high line.
Whether Palace can convince Baumgartner to join or close the deal for Canvot before the window shuts remains to be seen. But the club’s recruitment drive is moving with purpose and clarity.
For Crystal Palace fans, the pursuit of Baumgartner and Canvot reflects both ambition and trust in the manager’s vision. With Glasner now fully embedded at the club, it is encouraging to see backing in the transfer market, especially for players who fit his style of play.
Baumgartner feels like a perfect addition. He is experienced at club and international level, can play across multiple roles in attack and midfield, and would slot into Palace’s system with minimal fuss.
As for Canvot, he is a player for the now and the future. Spending £22.5 million on a teenager is a statement, but it is also a calculated one. If Guehi stays, Palace will have serious depth at centre-back. If he goes, the club are ahead of the curve in replacing him.
The key now is pace. With the deadline approaching, fans will hope Palace can turn strong interest into decisive action.
