Crystal Palace reached the Europa Conference League final at Selhurst Park, a night unlike anything the 102-year-old ground has seen.

Oliver Glasner paused late on to salute the stands, urging them to raise the volume and savour the moment. According to NY Times, the crowd responded as one as songs swept the stadium.

Shakhtar started fast with two early chances. Palace sat deep then struck when Pedro Henrique deflected into his own net after incisive work from Adam Wharton and Daniel Munoz. Eguinaldo levelled on the night before Ismaila Sarr’s effort from Tyrick Mitchell’s cross trickled in off the post.

With a 3-1 first-leg cushion, many had already booked Germany. Tension flickered but never reached the pitch as red and blue flags swept the Holmesdale and every decision was contested.

“We trusted in ourselves,” Glasner said, reflecting that belief and quality have grown through the rounds. He added that such nights are the emotional reward, moments you cannot buy, only deserve.

Rayo Vallecano await in Leipzig. They have kept clean sheets in both legs against Strasbourg, took 22 shots in France and their 2-0 aggregate win might have been wider. Palace will lean on recent big-game experience, and Glasner’s 2022 Europa League triumph, for the final push.
