The French club also faced Premier League opposition in other notable fixtures, including the FIFA Club World Cup final against Chelsea and the UEFA Super Cup against Tottenham Hotspur.

Regular matchups against English teams could make PSG a tempting destination for Premier League players considering a move abroad.

Even though the 2026 summer transfer window is still months away, European clubs are already mapping out potential signings. PSG are expected to target Premier League midfielders as they look to reinforce their squad, though the competition for those players is expected to be fierce.

TBR Football recently reported that Crystal Palace recognizes keeping Adam Wharton long-term could be challenging, but is exploring a contract extension through 2027.

Liverpool, Chelsea, Manchester City, and Manchester United are all monitoring Wharton closely, tracking his development according to the report.

Should Wharton decide to leave, interest from overseas is expected to be significant, with Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, and PSG all reportedly keeping tabs on the promising young playmaker.

Mirror Football reports that Wharton aims to feature in Champions League football at his next club. He is currently Manchester United’s top transfer target, but with Ruben Amorim at the helm, the club’s chances of qualifying for Europe’s elite competition appear slim. Moreover, for PSG’s case, they are a regular contender in the Champions League with Luis Enrique at the helm.

Wharton’s agent, James Featherstone, has confirmed that his client is eager to compete at the highest level. Amid ongoing rumors about Wharton, TEAMtalk’s Steve Pearson recently shared his thoughts on where the midfielder should head if the player decides to leave after the 2025-26 season.

“If Wharton is the type of man who doesn’t look beyond Tuesday, the answer is Liverpool,” Pearson wrote. “If he’s more forward-thinking – and everything we’ve seen so far suggests he’s an old head on young shoulders – then it really is a no-brainer, join Manchester United.

“Wharton is already a fine player but at 21, he’s not close to hitting his ceiling. To ensure his development continues at a rapid rate, and to ensure he can go from Premier League star to world-class superstar, he MUST play 90 minutes, week in, week out. That cannot happen at Anfield, given the presence of Ryan Gravenberch and Alexis Mac Allister.”
