Eagles chairman hoping an agreement can be reached to keep highly-rated boss at Selhurst Park beyond this season
Crystal Palace have begun new contract talks with manager Oliver Glasner, chairman Steve Parish has confirmed.
Glasner has established a reputation as one of the best coaches in the Premier League since the former Eintracht Frankfurt boss was appointed to succeed Roy Hodgson in February 2024, guiding Palace to their first-ever major trophy with last season’s FA Cup final success against Manchester City at Wembley.
The Austrian followed that up by leading his side to a penalty shootout win over Liverpool in the Community Shield, with a hugely impressive unbeaten run across all competitions stretching to 19 games before finally being ended by a last-gasp 2-1 loss to Everton before the international break.
Glasner’s stellar work at Selhurst Park - which includes their maiden European campaign in the Conference League - has led to a number of links to other clubs, with suggestions that he would be in the frame in the event that Manchester United decided to part company with struggling head coach Ruben Amorim.
He has also been mentioned as a possible successor to Vincent Kompany at Bayern Munich, with his contract in south London due to expire next summer.
Tying down Glasner to a new deal is of the utmost importance to Palace and Parish has now revealed that talks are already underway.
“We've had some early conversations,” he told talkSPORT. “We’d love to keep Oliver. We're building something.
“I think for Oliver it's about the conditions being right.... it's about everything being in a way that he enjoys his work and he finds the conditions favourable to achieve.
“Oliver wants to win things. If we can align those interests then hopefully we can make something happen.”
Glasner has been asked about his future again during the current international break, telling Austrian news outlet OE24 that he was “amused” by claims that he wants to return to the Bundesliga with reigning champions Bayern.
Asked about the possibility of managing another Premier League team, he said: “It would be unfair to name a club, because every club has a great coach and a great person.
“I’ve heard a bit about that recently, that someone claimed I actually want to be Bayern Munich coach.
“It amuses me when other people know what I want without having discussed it with me.
“That’s why I'll never make a statement about something like that, because there’s simply a great coach everywhere. Oliver Glasner doesn’t need to add his two cents.
“I follow the media relatively little. I’ve stopped following the media too much, regardless of victory or defeat, because I’ve noticed that a lot of nonsense is being written.
“I hope that I am appreciated as Oliver Glasner, not because I am successful. I, at least, appreciate people based on their character and not on whether they are winning or losing.
“For me, it’s like this: if someone is a good person, they are a good person - regardless of whether they win or lose.”
