Palace won 3-1 in Sussex in December, ending a six-match winless streak against Brighton. The last five meetings between these two fierce rivals at Selhurst have all produced 1-1 draws.
Located 41.5 miles apart, these two are not obvious enemies but, make no mistake about it, this is a fierce rivalry, with both sets of supporters desperate for victory. Of the two, it's Brighton & Hove Albion who kick off seven points better off, in the hunt for European qualification. However, it's been a miserable week for the Seagulls, first dumped out of the FA Cup by Nottingham Forest on penalties last Saturday; Jack Hinshelwood and Diego Gómez both denied from 12 yards.
Then, on Wednesday, Fabian Hürzeler's team were demolished 3-0 by Aston Villa at the Amex. Prior to this, the Albion had been unbeaten in five Premier League fixtures, winning four of them, but have now dropped to eighth, thereby occupying the final potential European position. Thus, it is vital for Brighton to get back to winning ways here.
As for Crystal Palace, unlike their rivals, they did reach the FA Cup semi-finals last Saturday, swatting aside Fulham 3-0 at Craven Cottage. That made it six consecutive away wins for Oliver Glasner's side, all without conceding, a streak they were widely-expected to continue at rock-bottom Southampton in mid-week. On the contrary, the Eagles required a stoppage time equaliser from forgotten man Matheus França to salvage a share of the spoils by the South Coast.
This means Palace remain 12th, having finished between tenth and 15th every season since gaining promotion back in 2013, their focus very much on the FA Cup semi-final against Aston Villa at Wembley in three week's time. Nevertheless, the Palace faithful will still be desperate to see their side claim victory when Brighton visit Selhurst on Saturday afternoon.
Will Hughes can return, following his two-match suspension, but Jefferson Lerma and Adam Wharton could keep their places, having formed an impressive midfield partnership in his absence.
In defence, American Chris Richards sat out the mid-week trip to Southampton due to a calf injury, hence why Nathaniel Clyne started. Nevertheless, Richards is expected to be fit for this one, which is a boost, given that Palace are short of defensive options, with Chadi Riad already sidelined.
Crystal Palace predicted lineup vs Brighton & Hove Albion: (3-4-2-1): Henderson; Richards, Guéhi, Lacroix; Muñoz, Wharton, Lerma, Mitchell; Sarr, Eze, Mateta.
Fit again Jean-Philippe Mateta has 15 goals to his name this season, while he has scored twice in his career to date against Brighton.
Fabian Hürzeler travels to South London without Jason Steele, Igor, Ferdi Kadıoğlu, Adam Webster, Tariq Lamptey, Joël Veltman, James Milner or Georginio Rutter.
As a result, Jack Hinshelwood will continue to fill-in at right-back, while Carlos Baleba and Yankuba Minteh are likely to return to the lineup, after both were surprisingly on the bench on Wednesday.
Brighton & Hove Albion predicted lineup vs Crystal Palace: (4-4-1-1): Verbruggen; Hinshelwood, Dunk, van Hecke, Estupiñán; Baleba, Ayari, Minteh, Mitoma; João Pedro, Welbeck.
João Pedro has eight goals to his name this season, while he was on target the last time Brighton beat their fierce rivals 13 months ago.
As referenced earlier, the last five times this duo have met at Selhurst, it's finished 1-1. We are forecasting another draw but, for the sake of variety, we've gone 2-2: Crystal Palace 2-2 Brighton & Hove Albion.
