Crystal Palace will look to continue their impressive recent form when they return to action at Selhurst Park on Saturday, putting the Premier League’s longest active unbeaten streak on the line.
Oliver Glasner’s side will be in high spirits following an impressive 3-0 victory at Aston Villa before the international break.
However, fresh injury concerns will hamper their efforts to maintain that momentum, which will test the depth of the squad against a Sunderland team that boasts a strong historical record in this fixture.
Oliver Glasner’s main task will be to compensate for the significant loss of winger Ismaïla Sarr and midfielder Adam Wharton. Sarr’s hamstring injury robs Palace of a key attacking threat and also their most effective defensive presser from the front.
Wharton’s absence in midfield will disrupt the team’s engine room, placing more responsibility on the shoulders of Will Hughes and Jefferson Lerma to control the centre of the park. Hughes, however, will need to be cautious, having been booked in all three league games so far.
Despite the injuries, Palace can rely on a formidable defensive unit. The back three of Chris Richards, Maxence Lacroix, and Marc Guehi have provided a solid foundation, with Guehi returning from an excellent international break where he scored his first goal for England.
The absence of Ismaïla Sarr and Eddie Nketiah means the onus will be on Jean-Philippe Mateta to spearhead the attack, with creative support likely to come from new midfielders Daichi Kamada and Yeremy Pino.
Crystal Palace predicted XI: Henderson; Richards, Lacroix, Guehi; Munoz, Lerma, Hughes, Mitchell; Kamada, Pino; Mateta
The Premier League fixture will be played at Selhurst Park on Saturday, 13 September 2025, with kick-off scheduled for 3 pm BST.
Due to the Saturday blackout, the match will not be broadcast live in the UK. However, live text and in-game updates will be available via BBC Sport.
