Maxence Lacroix (25) has told L’Équipe that he believes he is capable of making his way into Didier Deschamps’ plans.

Lacroix is having another excellent season at Crystal Palace. The Sochaux academy product has already played 20 games for his club this season, including all 12 in the Premier League. Despite featuring for Les Bleus up to U20 level he has yet to make his debut for France’s senior side.

Naturally, in what is a World Cup year, he is thinking about breaking into the national team set-up, and he isn’t lacking in belief. “If you don’t believe in yourself, football is a bit difficult,” Lacroix told L’Équipe.

He continued, “The France national team is a dream, especially with the World Cup coming up. You want to be a part of that adventure. I watch all of the squad announcements with the hope of being called up.”

On Thursday night, his club, Crystal Palace, face RC Strasbourg Alsace in the UEFA Europa Conference League. Lacroix doesn’t see this game in particular as a way of working his way into contention. “The Premier League is a lot more watched than the Conference League […] I am facing the best strikers in the world every weekend. I think that I am in the best league to make this last step,” said the Frenchman.
