Crystal Palace’s Walter Benitez could rejoin OGC Nice on free transfer | OneFootball

Walter Benitez (33) could terminate his contract at Crystal Palace in order to secure a return to OGC Nice, as per a report from Nice-Matin.

Benitez joined Crystal Palace from PSV Eindhoven last summer, however, as he would have been aware upon joining, he played a back-up role. As a result, the 33-year-old was limited to just eight appearances across the season. He played just once in the Premier League.

Under contract until 2028, he may nonetheless have his sights set on a return to Les Aiglons. The goalkeeper was present at Villa Massena last month and the club’s former co-president, Jean-Pierre Rivere, revealed that the Argentinian shotstopper had his heart set on a return to the Allianz Riviera.

A place for Benitez could be opened up should Yehvann Diouf, the current No.1, opt to leave the club. The Senegal international, Nice-Matin understands, is weighing up his future.

Benitez would be willing to make a significant effort to return to Nice by terminating his contract and taking a wage cut.
