Cape Town City secured a crucial 1-0 victory over Highbury in the Motsepe Foundation Championship, thanks to a solitary goal from Jaedin Rhodes from the penalty spot.
The Citizens, who were relegated from the topflight last season, climbed to fourth as a result, and are five points off log leaders Milford FC, who have amassed 27 points in 14 games.
Despite suffering a shock 2-0 defeat to Midland Wanderers, Milford maintain their top spot, but Casric Stars narrowed the gap to two points after a thumping 4-0 victory over Leicesterford City.
Rounding up the top four is Kruger United, who dropped to third following a 3-1 loss to newly promoted The Bees FC, who climbed to 10th with 18 points.
Elsewhere, Hungry Lions edged Upington City 1-0 to move up to fifth with 22 points, while Lerumo Lions ascended to eighth place after a 2-1 win over the University of Pretoria.
In the fight against the drop, 10-man Venda FC compounded misery on Baroka FC, who remain in the relegation zone in 15th place, while the Vhembe-based side climbed to seventh.
Black Leopards remain rooted at the bottom of the second tier standings as they played to a 2-2 draw with Gomora United at Thohoyandou Stadium.
Lidoda Duvha have accumulated 10 points in 13 matches, while Bakgaga have recorded 11 points from 14 games, as the two sides find themselves in an unfamiliar situation.
