The CTA has acknowledged an officiating error on matchday 22, saying Oviedo v Girona should have seen a red card in the second minute, while defending other decisions, including the dismissal of Brais.

According to AS, the committee reviewed four incidents across Osasuna v Villarreal, Oviedo v Girona, Betis v Valencia and Athletic v Real Sociedad.

In Osasuna v Villarreal, De Burgos Bengoetxea awarded a penalty for Javi Galán’s early challenge on Pepe. The committee deemed it a careless challenge that felled the opponent without playing the ball, so the penalty was correctly given.

In Oviedo v Girona, in the second minute Colombatto caught Vanat on the ankle. The referee gave only a foul and no card. The committee judged it serious foul play that warranted a straight red and said VAR should have intervened.

In Betis v Valencia, a penalty for a Copete stamp on Ruibal was upheld. The contact was not reckless but prevented the attacker continuing, so it was punishable with no disciplinary sanction.

In Athletic v Real Sociedad, Brais Méndez was sent off for striking Paredes in the face. Some considered the contact slight and the red excessive, but the committee backed the decision, noting that a more than negligible strike to the head or face when the ball is not being contested must mean dismissal. Prior provocation was met with a caution.
