On Tuesday the Comité Técnico de Árbitros released Tiempo de Revisión, backing the decision that Cancelo did not concede a penalty and acknowledging a missed red at La Cartuja. According to AS, it also highlighted an assistant’s early flag in Valencia v Atlético and assessed Betis v Oviedo.
At Montilivi, Mallorca appealed for a penalty after Daley Blind brushed Pablo Torre. The CTA said the slight contact lacked the necessary force, the referee had a clear view and VAR rightly did not intervene.
Early at El Sadar, Osasuna claimed a spot-kick against Cancelo for a challenge on Budimir. The committee ruled the Barcelona defender played the ball cleanly, then was hit by the attacker, so no penalty and VAR confirmed it.
For Atlético’s second at Mestalla, scored by Cubo, the assistant flagged too soon instead of delaying a tight offside. A VOR check showed no offside, the referee awarded the goal, and the CTA said the assistant should have kept the flag down.
At La Cartuja, Amrabat’s studs caught Thiago just after the ball had gone out. The corner was correct because the ball was out, but the CTA viewed the tackle as serious foul play that endangered an opponent, and said VAR should have prompted a red card.
It added that if a foul occurs off the field while the ball is in play, the restart is from the nearest line, and if that line is the goal-line marking the area, a penalty should be given.
