According to Diario Do Peixe, Cuca was confronted by a Santos supporter in Belo Horizonte on Wednesday 16 after the club’s Copa Sudamericana exit, with insults, shoves and an attempted assault quickly halted by club and hotel security.
Santos were eliminated in the quarter-finals. They won the first leg 2-0 at Vila Belmiro, then lost 4-2 to Atlético-MG at Arena MRV, taking the tie to penalties. Atlético-MG prevailed 3-1 in the shootout, with Arthur, João Schmidt and Gabriel Barbosa missing.
A group of Santos fans were staying at the same hotel as the travelling party. One began directing abuse at Cuca and the delegation, prompting a row.
Tensions rose when one fan argued with Dênis, the former Torcida Jovem president who frequently travels with the team. Pushing followed, security stepped in to separate those involved and moved members of the delegation away from the area.
Out of the Sudamericana, Santos now focus on the Campeonato Brasileiro. They face Remo on Saturday 19 at 18:30 Brasília time in Belém in the 28th round. The squad will travel directly from Belo Horizonte to the north of the country.
