Cuca is weighing a position change to give Miguelito more opportunities at Santos after Bolivia’s play-off defeat to Iraq ended the 21-year-old’s World Cup bid.

According to Globo.com, the midfielder has struggled to nail down a place since the coach arrived and is likely to be tried in different roles to increase his chances.

His last outing for Santos came on 26 February, a win over Vasco, when he played 45 minutes under Juan Pablo Vojvoda.

The head coach views him as a left-footed right-sider, a profile also seen in Robinho Jr and Barreal, and one already well represented in the squad. A hamstring issue kept him out of a recent trip. Staff plan to work him through the middle and on the left, with versatility the priority.

Miguelito’s contract runs to April 2027. The club had hoped World Cup qualification with Bolivia would boost his market value, given his leadership role with the national team, but that did not happen. Now out of the tournament, he is focused on earning minutes at Santos and, in turn, on negotiating a new deal, having made only four Brasileirão appearances this year.
