After Santos beat Remo, Cuca declined to discuss Botafogo midfielder Newton and said he will work with what is already at the club, including the academy.
According to Diario Do Peixe, Newton was among his late requests on the final day of the CBF domestic window, but the move was not completed due to time constraints.
Cuca said he intends to rely on internal solutions, noting the academy’s track record and that staff are monitoring prospects to step up when needed. He praised the group’s effort and professionalism in recent days.
He also said he had not brought players in his last stint, though centre-back Laércio and forward Felippe Cardoso were requested by him. Midfielder Zé Welison and Elias also trained at CT Rei Pelé after being requested, but a transfer ban at the time saw them join other clubs.
Several youngsters have recently trained with the first team. They include goalkeeper João Pedro, defenders João Ananias and João Alencar, full-back Rafa Gonzaga, midfielder Nicola Profeta, and forwards Davi Fernandes and Mateus Xavier, alongside others from the Under-17 and Under-20 groups.
