After losing to Athletico-PR, Cuca called on Santos to find a way to lift their FIFA transfer ban so they can add reinforcements, warning that a short squad is struggling to handle the Brasileirão, the Copa do Brasil and the Sudamericana.
According to Globo.com, the coach said he is worried about the league situation, noting the club did not sign anyone in the window, have lost players and are relying on internal solutions with limited depth across three fronts.
He added that, if the ban could be broken, two or three arrivals to bulk out the group would help. Cuca said he enjoys working with the youngsters, but accepts this is not ideal right now.
There is no timetable to overturn the FIFA sanction, imposed over a debt of about R$ 12 million owed to Monaco for the 2023 signing of Jean Lucas. The immediate priority is settling overdue image rights with the squad. The transfer window remains open until 11 September.
With 22 points, Santos have slipped into the Brasileirão relegation zone. Focus now turns to the Sudamericana last 16 against Ecuadorian side Macará at Vila Belmiro on Thursday at 19:00 Brasília time.
