Cuiabá president Cristiano Dresch has accused Santos of failing to settle a debt from the 2023 purchase of defender Joaquim, a dispute now before the CNRD.
Joaquim was signed by Santos for 3 million euros for 60% of his economic rights. In 2024, Santos sold him to Tigres of Mexico for 8 million dollars, but Cuiabá say their percentage has not been passed on.
“If Santos paid us… Santos owes 18 million to Cuiabá, it is being judged, we are pressing the CNRD to rule, and I am sure Santos has no way out other than judicial recovery. If that happens, this 18 million credit becomes 3 million, 2 million,” he told GE.com.
“They have Neymar, Rollheiser, Barreal, Thaciano, Luan Peres. What Santos pays Neymar could cover Cuiabá’s wage bill for five or six months, it is absurd while owing 18 million. Santos should never have a player like Neymar while owing Cuiabá.”
Santos are aware of the claim and are monitoring the case at the CNRD. Internally, the matter is being assessed within the club’s current financial context and there is no immediate plan to pay.
The club’s approach in similar cases has been to await the progress of claims and settle once a ruling arrives or when the prospect of a sporting sanction draws nearer.
