An agreement on personal terms is in place, and a medical will be scheduled for the 25-year-old in due course.

He has played 228 games for the Reds since his debut in the 2018-19 season, but failed to nail down a regular starting berth.

With one year left on his contract at his boyhood club, he has sought an exit, and an agreement has been reached.

Jones will become the third Englishman to join Inter this summer, following moves for John Stones and Djed Spence.

The reigning Italian champions have agreed to bring in the midfielder as a replacement for Davide Frattesi, who left the club for Lazio.

Jones played in the first three pre-season games under manager Andoni Iraola this summer before a minor hip problem ruled him out of the last three matches.

The Reds may bring in a new player before the end of the transfer window to replace Jones.

They could trust 19-year-old midfielder Trey Nyoni, who has been impressive whenever he has been called upon since joining the club three years ago.
