Udinese’s Curva Nord have published a statement confirming they intend to show ‘dissent’ towards Mike Maignan, after a banner was displayed in the city.

During last season’s trip to the Stadio Friuli, Maignan alerted his team-mates and the officials that he was getting racially abused after a warning had been broadcast, so the players went off the field to show solidarity.

“Friuli, Udine and the Curva Nord are not racist. Let’s demonstrate it. Our dissent towards Mike Maignan (the Friulian people do not forget), done in a civil manner without falling into discriminatory attitudes.

“Let’s go beyond the more or less manipulated media resonances, let’s make ourselves heard while remaining within the canons of correctness that have always been recognised to us. Now and always Forza Udinese.”
