Tony D’Amico has emerged as the frontrunner to become Roma’s new sporting director, with the outgoing Atalanta director considered the ideal profile by the club’s hierarchy as they prepare to replace Frederic Massara.

According to TuttoHellasVerona, D’Amico, who leaves Atalanta this summer following Cristiano Giuntoli’s imminent appointment as his successor in Bergamo, has moved to the top of Roma’s shortlist ahead of Verona’s Sean Sogliano, who had previously been under consideration but now appears to have fallen behind in the race.

D’Amico’s Atalanta experience makes him ideal fit for Gasperini’s Roma project

The appointment would make considerable sense on a footballing level.

D’Amico worked alongside Gian Piero Gasperini at Atalanta, where the pair developed a strong and productive working relationship during one of the most successful periods in the Bergamo club’s history.

Gasperini has made clear he wants a sporting director he trusts and can collaborate with closely, and D’Amico fits that brief precisely.

Milan had also been pursuing D’Amico, but Roma’s interest appears to have gained significant momentum, amid additional speculation that the Rossoneri could stick with former Lazio director Igli Tare.
