Dan Neil is set to join Rangers after a deal was agreed for the former Sunderland midfielder.
According to Sky Sports, Rangers accelerated talks over the last 48 hours, with the 24-year-old undergoing a medical in the past 24 hours, after he had held discussions with Southampton last week and looked likely to head to St Mary's.
Neil is a free agent after his Sunderland contract expired this summer, ending a long association with the Black Cats.
The midfielder came through the academy, helped win promotion from League One in 2022 and later aided Sunderland's return to the Premier League.
He captained Sunderland in the club's Championship play-off final win over Sheffield United at Wembley, cementing his place in their recent rebuild.
Southampton had seemed well placed, but Rangers now appear to have won the race. The Glasgow side also completed the signing of goalkeeper Ivor Pandur from Hull City for 6 million earlier this week.
