Daniel Farke has been shortlisted for April’s Premier League Manager of the Month after April form that nudged Leeds towards safety.
yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk notes that Leeds recorded back-to-back league wins for the first time this season against Manchester United and Wolves, then drew 2-2 at Bournemouth. The 2-1 success at Old Trafford was their first win there since 1981.
Seven points from nine took them to 40 points. Farke is on a seven-man shortlist with Nuno Espirito Santo, Vitor Pereira, Pep Guardiola, Arne Slot, Andoni Iraola and Fabian Hurzeler.
Voting is open until 12pm on Monday, four May, with the ballot then combined with a panel’s judgement to decide the winner.
Leeds could claim a double, with Noah Okafor up for April’s Player of the Month. He scored both, then added a goal and an assist in the 3-0 win over Wolves.
Farke is targeting another milestone on Friday night, when victory over Burnley would take Leeds to 43 points, a total that has never resulted in relegation from a 20-team Premier League.
He said his side have shown desire and must stay respectful, focused and concentrated, with 12 points still to play for. He added that one more win would ease pressure and make the run-in more relaxed.
Burnley arrive with Mike Jackson as interim head coach after Scott Parker’s departure on Thursday. The Clarets were relegated after last week’s 1-0 home defeat by Manchester City and have won just four league matches this season.
