If Leeds United do enter the January market, their focus is expected to be on attack after missing out in the summer. A striker from Europe has been touted, with £9m Japan international Ayase Ueda among the options.

“I wonder if a bottom-half Premier League team has a dart for him next summer. Or maybe even as early as January, depending on where they’re at. He’s kind of got Leeds written all over him.” He told TalkSPORT.

Daniel Farke has already addressed goalkeeper and defence, and has five strong central midfielders, but the forward line has involved trial and error. Leeds tried for Harry Wilson, Igor Paixao and Facundo Buonanotte and came up short, and a shift to 3-5-2 underlined issues out wide. Martin Baturina has been discussed and Tyrique George, who scuppered the Wilson move, is also a target.

Ueda is Arne Slot’s record signing at Feyenoord and a teammate of Ao Tanaka with Japan. He has 19 goals in 21 games this season, including 18 in 15 in the Eredivisie, and hit four in his last league outing on Sunday.

Joel Piroe is already likely to be weighing up an exit after being overlooked for a starting place on Saturday night. While he is still getting minutes, another striker arrival would suggest Leeds doubt his Premier League output this season. He has asked his agents to assess options, and any Ueda deal would push him closer to the exit, so Leeds must decide what they want.
