Leeds United could be handed a major boost ahead of their trip to Turf Moor on Saturday, with winger Daniel James (27) in contention for a surprise return against fellow newly-promoted side Burnley, according to reports from Sky Sports.

The Welsh international was initially expected to be sidelined for up to six weeks after sustaining an ankle injury in training during the international break. However, manager Daniel Farke revealed that James’ recovery has progressed faster than anticipated, crediting the club’s medical and rehabilitation staff for their work.

Dan is ahead of schedule,” Farke said on Friday. “He’s trained in major parts of the sessions and could be available for some minutes this weekend. I didn’t expect this.

With forward Noah Okafor struggling with a minor adductor issue, James’ early return could provide timely reinforcement in attack. Meanwhile, Willy Gnonto continues his recovery from minor hernia surgery, with hopes of returning for next week’s clash against West Ham.

Farke also confirmed that Karl Darlow will keep his place in goal despite Lucas Perri’s return to fitness, while teenage prospect Harry Gray is close to agreeing a new long-term contract.

Leeds travel to Lancashire seeking to build momentum as they adapt to life back in the Premier League.
