Tottenham Hotspur’s long-serving executive chair, Daniel Levy, has stepped down with immediate effect after almost 25 years in charge of the club.
The announcement came on Thursday evening via the Spurs website, which also confirmed that Peter Charrington will take up the newly-created post of non-executive chair.
Levy, who first took the reins back in March 2001, leaves shortly after Spurs finally lifted silverware in May, winning the Europa League and ending a 17-year trophy drought.
His exit takes place without a notice period, the timing carefully chosen to come once the summer transfer window had closed.
Levy’s biggest legacy is the building of the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium - a £1.2bn project that has since become a huge source of income for the club.
Despite the Europa League triumph, plenty of fans remained frustrated with how the club was being run, particularly as Spurs slumped to 17th in the Premier League. Manager Ange Postecoglou was dismissed soon after the European success.
