The local Hamburger Abendblatt newspaper reports that the issues holding up Hamburg keeper Daniel Peretz’s move to Southampton have been fully resolved. A training strike by the Israeli international has produced the desired effect. Peretz’s parent club Bayern Munich and Hamburg have reached an agreement to terminate Peretz’s loan early. Peretz’s path to England stands clear.
The Hanseatic paper reports that – in addition to the matter of Hamburg hoping to procure a replacement for Peretz – Hamburg also wished to recoup the €500,000 loan fee inherent in Peretz’s loan deal. The German record champions have evidently acceded to this request, officially enabling the termination of the loan.
Sky Germany claims that the EFL Championship club will pay Bayern a €400,000 loan fee as part of the deal. The Saints will also have to opportunity to acquire Peretz permanently via an €8m purchase option. Bayern paid Maccabi Tel Aviv €5m to acquire Peretz in August 2023. Mostly due to lack of playing time, Peretz’s estimated market value has fallen from a peak of €5m to €2m over the last two-and-a-half years.
Peretz has still only made four Bundesliga appearances during his time in Germany. During the 2024/25 campaign, the 25-year-old made three consecutive league starts in place of the injured Manuel Neuer between matchdays 13 and 15. He conceded five goals in those three fixtures.
Peretz has also started on four occasions in Germany’s domestic cup, including two cup starts for Hamburg this season. He made one Champions League start for Bayern during his time filling in for Neuer in December 2024.
Immediately after his December auditions, Bayern acquired Köln keeper Jonas Urbig to serve as Manuel Neuer’s eventual heir during the January 2025 transfer window.
After Peretz refused a January 2025 loan out, Urbig ultimately ended up filling in for Neuer quite a lot last spring and cemented his status as Neuer’s heir.
