Boca have halted talks to re-sign Sebastián Villa, with Independiente Rivadavia chief Daniel Vila citing a mismatch over the release clause and payment terms.
Led by Juan Román Riquelme, Boca had accelerated the move in recent weeks, despite most supporters opposing Villa’s return. "The mistake, if you can call it that, was the agent, Rodrigo Riep, telling Riquelme the release clause was six million dollars. It is seven, and net. For less than that it is impossible," Vila said to Clarín.
"If Boca, or anyone, pays the buyout clause, Villa leaves Independiente because I gave my word, that is why we put the clause," Vila said.
He outlined the figures on the table. "Riquelme offered five million this year and one million next year. I had no problem financing it, but on seven million plus interest. I added the remaining one to make seven, plus 500,000 in interest to be paid in 2028, but he did not call back."
Club leaders judged a long-term commitment of seven and a half million dollars not viable.
