Danilho Doekhi ‘to join’ Lazio on free transfer | OneFootball

Lazio have reached an agreement to sign free agent Danilho Doekhi, a move set to strengthen Gennaro Gattuso’s defence.

Sky Sport Italia’s Gianluca Di Marzio reports that a full agreement on personal terms was settled in a Monday meeting. Fabrizio Romano has delivered his ‘here we go’, adding the 28-year-old was due to undergo a medical on Monday evening before signing.

The capital club have lost two key centre-backs, with Mario Gila joining AC Milan and Alessio Romagnoli confirming his departure ahead of a transfer to Al-Sadd. Replacements were needed.

Lazio had explored alternatives including Sergi Dominguez, Diego Coppola, who instead rejoined Paris FC, and Pietro Comuzzo. The move for Doekhi emerged suddenly.

Born in Rotterdam, Doekhi came through Ajax’s academy and featured for Vitesse before joining Union Berlin in 2022. He has also contributed at the other end, scoring 16 goals in 137 appearances.
