Danilo has become an adviser to Leonardo Jardim at Flamengo, seen offering guidance in the Carioca final against Fluminense and in the match with Cruzeiro, despite starting on the bench in both.

"My time with Guardiola at Manchester City helped me a lot to think about the game, the spaces, the timing of passes, the timing of movement. I pass that on to my team-mates. I help a lot, obviously I do not go over the staff, but I help when I can, when I am asked as well. I really enjoy the pitch, the strategy, the movements and everything," he told ge in January.

With long experience in Europe, including Portugal, and strong dressing-room leadership, Danilo has been mediating Jardim’s ideas and relaying player expectations as the coach settles in.

He also had an open line with former head coach Filipe Luís. When Filipe was criticised over comments about racism allegations involving Vini Jr, Danilo phoned him to explain why that stance was being questioned.

Danilo made four appearances for Flamengo in 2026, all under Filipe Luís. In 2025 he was the Libertadores hero, scoring the 1-0 winner against Palmeiras.

He hopes to reach a third World Cup and is on Carlo Ancelotti’s preliminary list for the next FIFA window. In the last year of his Flamengo deal, he is considering retirement at the end of the season, with post-playing roles in club backrooms among the options after receiving approaches.
