Danilo Cataldi has undergone groin surgery and is targeting a swift return to action with Lazio. The 31-year-old has been a regular since returning from Fiorentina, with Nicolo Rovella out long term.
According to Il Corriere dello Sport, he aims to join team-mates when pre-season opens. Players are expected at Formello by July 10 for medicals, with training set to start under incoming head coach Gennaro Gattuso by July 13.
After his loan at Fiorentina, Cataldi became a staple in Maurizio Sarri’s side, particularly with Rovella sidelined by a groin issue. Unlike Rovella, who first tried conservative treatment before surgery, Cataldi opted to proceed immediately.
He travelled to Spain to have the procedure performed by Dr Cugat, an orthopaedic specialist. The operation was successful and he is intent on returning as soon as possible.
The central midfielder is expected to figure in Gattuso’s plans next season. His contract runs to June 2027, so his longer-term future remains unresolved.
