Thiago Motta turned to Danilo to have more oomph against Lazio late in the game, and the veteran made his presence felt in the build-up and their late siege, earning high praise from the gaffer in an uncertain time concerning his future at Juventus.
According to Tuttomercatoweb, the permanence or departure of the Brazil captain could determine whether the Bianconeri will be able to sign a new defender. They don’t have a lot of wiggle room in their payroll. Any exit of players with high wages would help.
Danilo reportedly recently asked to remove a clause that could automatically renew his contract. It’s not yet known whether the Juventus brass will comply with that. The management could try to include him in some swaps, for instance with Milan Skriniar or Jonathan Tah. The Slovak earns a lot more, though. But it’s more likely they’ll end up signing somebody cheap or on loan with an option to buy. They’ll prioritize players already familiar with Serie A.
The Old Lady are in the race for the German international, but they aren’t in pole position. Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, and Barcelona are leading it. Inter are after him as well.
A new center-back is a must but they’d still need some depth, so, ideally, they’d add one and keep him too so they can rest easy in the second half of the season. A trade with a disgruntled player is an option, perhaps temporarily, but he’d have to extend his contract beforehand, and neither party seems interested in that.
