Former Southampton striker Danny Ings has joined League One Wycombe on a free after his proposed summer move to Leicester fell through.

According to Daily Echo, the 34-year-old left Sheffield United as a free agent and has spent the past week training with the Chairboys.

He could feature against Reading on Saturday as he starts the latest chapter of a career that includes 240 Premier League appearances.

Ings had looked set to link up with former Saints boss Russell Martin at Leicester on a one-year deal earlier this summer. That switch collapsed after he failed a medical, and he remained without a club having made 23 Championship appearances last season.

The Winchester-born forward has three England caps and has represented Burnley, Liverpool, Southampton, Aston Villa and West Ham.

His most prolific spell came at St Mary's, initially on loan from Liverpool in 2018, where he scored 46 goals in 100 games.

He has also been regularly linked with a Southampton return since leaving and was previously in talks over a potential move.
