If there is one thing Rangers fans are guaranteed it is a repetitive injury crisis. It always rears its ugly head around winter time. Rangers went through this deeply under Giovanni van Bronckhorst. There was a notorious defensive injury crisis in late 2022 which cost so much. It was further compounded under Philippe Clement. He went through the same kind of Rangers injuries only a year or two later. And now Danny Rohl finds himself embroiled once again.
Already without a great number of players through injury Rohl has just lost three. Connor Barron and Dujon Sterling are not just doubts. They will not face Aberdeen this weekend. They could be long term injuries without certainty over diagnosis. It is unclear when both picked up their respective knocks. Some say it was against Aberdeen. Some say against Celtic.
One thing is for sure. Both are massive absences to face Aberdeen. There are hints of precautionary scans being carried out. The biggest concern is Barron. Rangers most in-form player at the moment faces a worrying prognosis. He has been said to be out for potentially up to three months. Rohl has confirmed this. It is a knee injury. That is one of the worst kinds.
Moore is said to have picked up a knock against Celtic. We do not know the extent of that but Rohl didn’t mention him as an injury. Sterling would be going for a scan. There is no clarity on when he will be available. This is a big problem. All three have been crucial starters of late. Sterling has just come back. He may not have started against Aberdeen but he came on with a cameo. He has become a decent option at right back. This comes in the ageing time of James Tavernier’s career twilight.
Furthermore Moore had finally started to show form. He also showed consistency. It came just in time to get injured but hopefully he’s ok for the weekend. But the big one is Barron. He is widely regarded as Rangers best overall form player at present. The all action combatant picked the worst time to get injured. He had finally established himself in the first team. He could be out until March. It could be longer.
It is a dire time for this injury. Rangers are starting to pick up serious momentum. Furthermore with Martin O’Neill’s return at that lot in the east end the title challenge changes. He will surely regain form in the east of Glasgow. Rangers must be ready for that. Losing potentially three significant first team players together to Rangers injuries is far from ideal.
