It’s official. From several different sources Ibrox Noise can confirm Danny Rohl wants a Barry Ferguson at Rangers.

Yes, too many years after Barry left, with Rangers never once having had a single midfield kingpin since then, Rohl wants to change that.

Playmaker

Ibrox Noise has heard from several sources telling us that a deep-lying playmaker dominating mid is a huge priority for January, essentially a 6 – a Barry.

Even Walter’s second spell didn’t have a 6 – it had ball winners like Thomson, and there was Hemdani, but a domineering titan just wasn’t there. And we’re not quite sure Davo or Edu qualifies.

Well, Rohl is set to seek out a major Barry in the middle – a commander who can put his foot on the ball and dictate play.

Russell Martin

Misguidedly Russell Martin and Kevin Thelwell thought the dismal Joe Rothwell was that man. Some Rangers fans even reckoned Raskin was.

But no, we’ve just not had that for many, many years, not since Barry left.

Having a fulcrum in that area of the pitch, a-dare-we-say-it a Callum McGregor in there, is exactly what Rangers have lacked the past decade.

Celtic knew it, they had Brown, then his boggle-eyed successor.

Weaklings

Rangers have had weaklings more often than not, a real lack of power and command in there. Best we had was Scott Arfield and he’s not that kind of player, neither was Ryan Jack.

With budget stronger these days, Rangers want that big lynchpin again. A Roy Keave, Steven Gerrard, Barry Ferguson you name it.

Rangers need a big leader in the middle. It looks like Danny Rohl is onto that for his first January window.

We don’t want some nobody from the Indonesian Third Division, we need a real alpha guy in there.

Hopefully Rohl doesn’t go for a Lincoln City youth player.
